Maiden Triumph: Dominant Sprint Sweep and Road Atlanta Debut with Performance Tech Motorsports

HSR Prototype Challenge
•Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta

BRASELTON, Ga. — Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta's notorious blind crests and sweeping downhill bends are enough to test even the most seasoned drivers. For a racer making their track debut at the iconic 2.54-mile circuit, the challenge is amplified.

Stepping into the high-downforce LMP3 machine alongside veteran outfit Performance Tech Motorsports for the HSR Prototype Challenge weekend, I experienced the full spectrum of motorsport: heartbreak while leading the endurance feature, followed by a triumphant sweep of both sprint races.

Perfect Pitch in Qualifying

The tone for the weekend was set early during qualifying. Despite learning the complex, high-speed rhythm of Road Atlanta on the fly, the Performance Tech-prepared Ligier JS P320 clicked into harmony with the heat-soaked track. Harnessing the massive aerodynamic capabilities of the prototype through the downhill "Esses" and squeezing maximum speed down the long back straight, a 1:18.902 secured class pole position.

That qualifying effort earned the top spot on the grid for all three scheduled races on the weekend card.

Enduro Heartbreak While Leading

The main endurance feature promised a grueling test of pace and stamina under oppressive heat and high humidity. Launching from pole position, I immediately established control, building a solid gap and controlling the pace at the front of the field.

However, endurance racing can be unsparing. While running out front in P1, mechanical trouble struck in the form of a mechanical wheel failure. With nothing left to do on the driving side, the machine was brought to an early retirement.

Rather than letting the frustration linger, the Performance Tech Motorsports crew rallied immediately, working through the high temperatures to repair and re-align the prototype in time for the sprint doubleheader.

Sprint Race 1: Traffic Masterclass

When the green flag dropped for the opening sprint, a tough launch off Turn 12 dropped me into second through Turn 1.

Remaining patient rather than over-driving on the greasy track surface, I stayed locked to the leader's rear wing through the technical mid-section. As the lead battle hit lapped traffic down the Esses, the opportunity opened. Executing a decisive move through a gap into Turn 6, the lead was snatched back. Once back in clear air, a sequence of clean laps built a comfortable gap to seal victory in Sprint 1.

Sprint Race 2: Lights-to-Flag Victory

The final event of the weekend left zero room for error. Applying lessons learned from the earlier races alongside setup refinements from the Performance Tech engineers, the start of Sprint 2 was executed to perfection.

Launching cleanly out of the final turn, I commanded the field into Turn 1 and never looked back. Managing tire wear, the gap to second place expanded continuously lap after lap. Crossing the line under the caution flag, the win completed a clean sweep of the sprint race program and put an exclamation mark on a memorable debut weekend.
