Grit, Grind, and Lessons Learned: My Race Weekend at Laguna Seca
Laguna Seca is one of the most iconic tracks in North America, and heading into Rounds 17 through 20 of the Gridlife Rush series, I was fired up to take on the Corkscrew and the rest of the legendary layout. But racing doesn't always go according to plan — and this weekend was a reminder of how quickly things can change.
Round 17: Fighting for Every Inch
Saturday kicked off with Round 17, and with a massive 38-car field, the competition was fierce. I started in P7 and knew I had to be aggressive from the start. The track was slick early on, and traffic was heavy, but I managed to stay clean and consistent. After 15 minutes of elbows-out racing, I crossed the line in 7th place. Not the podium I was aiming for, but a solid result given the circumstances.
Navigated heavy traffic and held strong for a top-10 finish in a 38-car field.
Rounds 18 & 19: Searching for Speed
Saturday & Sunday brought two more races, and while I gave it everything I had, the results didn't reflect the effort. In both rounds, I struggled to find grip and pace. The car felt unpredictable, and I couldn't quite dial it in the way I wanted. Despite pushing hard and staying in the fight, I ended up 11th in both races. It was frustrating, but I kept my head down and focused on learning from every lap.
Battled through setup challenges and tire wear to salvage points.
Round 20: Mechanical Heartbreak
Sunday's final race was a tough one. Just a few laps in, I felt something go wrong — the differential blew. With no chance to continue competitively, I had to limp the car back to the paddock and retire early. It's never easy to end a weekend like that, especially after putting in so much work, but mechanical failures are part of the sport.
Blown differential ended the race prematurely.
The Takeaway
Laguna Seca didn't deliver the results I was chasing, but it delivered plenty of lessons. Racing isn't just about standing on the podium — it's about how you respond when things don't go your way. This weekend tested my patience, my adaptability, and my resilience. I learned a lot about the car, about myself, and about what it takes to stay focused when the odds are stacked against you.
I'm heading into the next round with a renewed drive to improve, regroup, and come back stronger.
Thanks to my team for working tirelessly to get the car back together, and to everyone who continues to support me on this journey. We'll be back. 🏁
